Before doing that make sure your wiper mech is clean and the spindles are free as they get stiff.

Easy to do, you just need to make up about 5 short jumper cables with the appropriate spade connectors on each end.
The Mk1 Plug and the Mk2 Motor each have the terminals numbered. Just match up the numbered pins with the leads you make up - job done!

I always wondered if a late Cab would have a more powerful motor but Mk1 connector. Anyone know?
I have a 1990 cab give me a pic of the connector and I'll check it out with mine, motor works well, so unsure if it's different or not
Golf GTI Cabriolet 1990 Helios Blue - gone
Audi A4 1.9TDI - Gone
Golf GTTDI MK5 140…..oooh quick….but not a MK1

I fitted a Mk2 motor to mine though I have removed the pics from my webspace!

Thinking about doing this ASAP. Did it make a big improvement? Was it that easy to do? Just unbolt one and bolt the other on?
Cheers.

Yep!
The motor sits at a different angle to the Mk1 version, which means that you can't put the brace that goes from the motor to the bulkhead back on. You could quite easily make one up to fit though, but it works fine without it.
