Mileometer / Odometer, Fuel Gauge and Temp Gauge not working
1987 1.8 Carb Clipper. Speedo and Rev Counter are working however the following are not:
Mileometer / Odometer
Fuel Gauge
Temp Gauge
They used to come back alive with a gentle tap to the top of the dash, but now that has stopped.
Any advice would be great, are new clocks required or is it a case to taking them out to have a look? Is that a big job? Does the steering wheel have to come off to get clocks out!?
Thanks,
Ben

Yes the wheel will need to come off plus the surround and all the switches etc.
Check the brown white wire to the rocker cover corner top right. There should also be a earth braid from there to the bolt that holds the coil bracket. This forms part of the earth for the dash unit.
If all the cluster is dead inc lights it could well be the voltage regulator on the back of the clocks.

To test the voltage stabiliser, connect a voltmeter between the terminals shown (see illustration) with a 12 volt supply to the remaining terminal. A constant voltage of 10 volts must be registered. If the voltage is above 10.5 volts or below 9.5 volts renew the voltage stabiliser.
oddometer is mechanical and driven by speedo, if speedo works then its probably one of the gears slipping on the shaft. try fiddlign with the reset button though that sometimes sorts it. if not have a read of this, its for mk2 but mk1 is similar:

The indicator and high beam bulbs are all working on dash.
I will get the clock unit out when it stops raining (tomorrow hopefully) and check out the pcb and voltage stabilizer. I will also have a look at the gears on the odometer.
Thanks again.
