mfa switch

im the process of rebuilding my gti cabrio but the mfa doesnt seem to work    everything on the dash works fine but when i press the button on the stalk nowt appens  :evil: i shorted out the butto so i know its not that so what else could it be???

anybody got a wiring diagram for that part?????

I had the same problem on the sportline. A brown and white wire had been pulled out of the connector that the mfa stalk wiring connects to. The brown and white wire is the one that does the Mode button.

I extended the length of the wire as its really too short and becomes pulled too tight before the other wires to the connector. I did a neat job soldering the wire together, used shrink wrap and soldered the wire to the pin in the connector. I took the pin out of the connector to do this.

were does the brown and white go to?? is it just an earth

I've just checked wiring diagram and it looks like it is just an earth…. And guess where it goes???

….To the rocker cover!!!!

This earth also serves:

?  Instrument panel lighting
?  Clock/mfa light
?  Voltage stabiliser in the dash which then serves:
              o     Gear change light on tin tops
              o  Engine oil pressure control unit
              o  Engine oil pressure light
              o  Alternator warning light
              o  Coolant temp light
              o  And more…..

This explains why if the brown and white wire comes off the rocker cover there are so many problems!!!
