MFA economy guage
I'm a new 1980 1.6 GTI owner and am just getting a few niggles sorted on my new pride and joy
The economy gauge on the dash isn't working so I have removed the cluster to take a look and the vacuum pipe is missing all together !
Could any one tell me where on engine the vacuum pipe comes from exactly ? I can't see anywhere on the inlet manifold missing a pipe.
A photo would be a great help
Thanks !

If you look at the throttle body there's a white jointing pipe at the 'T' of the pipes, you can just about seet he pipe going to the nipple where the tube fits on.
Hope that helps a little?

It may have had later clocks fitted in it.
Is there a button on the end of the wiper stalk?
Is there a little button coming out the clear palstic binnacle cover which says 1 & 2 either side of it?

1980 was changeover year so could be either series 1 or 2.peeriehutchie said
reckoning a 1980 should be series 1 (cabrio type rear lights and round speedo) either way in the history of the mk1 section it gives the year and spec for that year and i rather think the 1980 model was pre mfa yes

Only the 1.8 from 1982 had the MFA which is probably why your vacuum is missing along with everything else which makes MFA function.

I think you're spot on, I have no button on my stalk and after further investigation i have another plug missing.
Are the genuine clocks hard to find now ?
I was mistaken on the year of my car too, it is an X reg 81.
Many thanks for all the help, i'm sure I will have a lot more coming over the next few weeks

You should be able to pick up a set of non MFA clocks. They're probably easier to get than your current mfa clocks.
Infact I may have a set somewhere but it'll take me the weekend to have a look.
