mfa again

Does the mfa stay on when there's no key in the ignition? Even though mine only tells the time and oil temp its staying on and i cant remember if it as always done this plus lately it keeps goin to 24.44 on the screen. Also I have a flashing red light in the temperature guage, is this for the oil pressure or temp. The electrics are doin my head in and I dont wanna get ripped off at an auto electrics place. Last question does the reverse lights work off the mfa board as mine dont work but it says it does on a previous thread? It makes no sense plus my horn dont work :banghead: .

MFA doesn?t work with no ignition?errr? not even the clock I think, now you?ve got me thinking!

The flashing red light, if its in the water temp gauge its to warn you that the car?s over heating or low on water. Check the contacts/wiring on the sender on top of the water expansion bottle. They sometimes trick the light into thinking the water is low. Is it running hot? Does the gauge read higher than normal? Or it could be 1980s VW electrics playing tricks, my brothers 1300 MK1 Driver spent months flashing its red light but now OK.

The reverse lights work off the same switch as the economy gauge, nothing to do with the MFA. See the other thread about replacing with a MK11 version. Also check the wiring connector where the main loom joins the mini loom to the gearbox switch.

Use a multimeter to check if 12v is getting to the horn.

Hang on in there

I meant to say you can still read the clocks when there's no key in? The temperature guage his reading normal, its in the middle.
