lots of golf mk1 Queries..plz help

Hello.
Firstly i bought a second hand golf mk1.I'm not certain of the yr model, but it still has all it's original parts and colors.Yellow top with a white trim on the bottom(CITI).Bought it from an Egyptian guy who went back..anywayZ..
1)The heater appears to not work.there are wires cut for some odd reason??(who would do such a thing to a golf??? :-(
2)The cig-lighter is also not working?  :-(
3)The Front windScreen wipers worked until 3days ago? :-(
4)The rear Wipers have never worked since i got my BABY :-(

My Baby has an ugly fold on the front and rear fenders. The front appears as though it might have been in a slight smash.

I have always wanted to own a golf mk1,and now that i have my "Baby", i intend on fix'n her up.Unfortunately i am somewhat "Mechanically Challenge" with regards to electronics and engines, (Don't laugh)but i am a fast learner
The latest addition to the family,my son, just loves to be in the car.Unfortunately he is very sickly, so i will only be able to fix the car body at the end of the yr.
ANY HELP WITH REGARDS TO FIX'n MY BABY WILL BE ETERNALLY APPRECIATED.
Gerard.

First thing to do is check all the fuses, you can get a book to find out which fuse check for each system thats not working if you like, or just pull each one out and replace any blown.

You say the wires for your heater have been snipped, well you could try to connect these back up, either soldering, or in line splice or even just cut some insulation back and wind them together (the later being a short term solution to check if there is still power going through the original cableing).

My golf's fan switch didn't work when I bought the car, and I was told that the fault will be in the fuse box (very tempremental things). As I didn't want to buy another fuse box, I decided to just hard wire the switch in, so I took a live from the battery, fitted an in-line fuse and connected it to the positive terminal of the fan switch, it still works to this day. (even when the ignition switch isn't on, which isn't ideal). I'll sort it properly one day!

As for the rest of the faults if the fuses are all fine next thing to check is that there is power and a good earth to all systems. This is done with a digital multimeter, these are not expensive and a must for any DIY electrical fault finding.

If you need any direction on how to check for live or an earth I'll explain it if you like.

@ Jeevesraf..I need to sort out the window wipers first. :banghead: It's 60% chance of rain in Cape Town.Wipers just not willing to go on.I've removed the entire wiper section,Check for continuity from plugs below stearing wheel to motor, replace my original bosch motor with another bosch motor, checked the earth connections.I was wonder'n if the actual wiper switch unit on the stearing wheel may have giving in?Next step,i think, would be to remove this unit and check that it is in actual fact still working….only problem is…i'm really taking a bad hit with the flu virus.Had to rush my baby son to the emergency..
Cannot drive without the wipers in the rain….Any advice will be greatly appreciated….and thanx in advance to yourself and any1 who may be able to assist me with get'n my "BABY" 1000% functional. :D  :D  :D

I have read through your post, I wouldnt advise wiring the wiper motor through the ciggy. Have you checked all the fuses correctly? if so have you tested the motor itself that may be knackered, have you checked that you are getting 12v at the wiper motor plug(loom side)?

To the Best of my recollection..I have checked the Wiper motor for power/earth/continuity,etc.But i think that i should re-check just to make certain. The flu virus has got me knock three ways into next yr.(LOL)I will do as you advise. ;-)

Goooood News..(if you could only c the smile on my face now) Took your advice and man am i glad i did :-) As you know…the lighter/Hazards/Wipers and Fan/Heater  where not working.Following your advice..check'd the fuse, etc….And that's when i saw that the Entire box was yellow/green from rain on the connectons? So i unplugged all wires from the box, removed all the fuse and my heart just dropped. One of the connection pins on the RED (power) part of the box had brocken off from carrosion. Replaced the box and now i have HAZARDS. Unfortunately the box does appear to be getting 12v but not  to the black/grey wire.(those wires give power to the fan/heater and wipers)Do i jump 12v from the lighter with a in-line-fuse between the connection? When i done a quick test…the wipers work and so does the fan/heater.Thanx for your advice..could'nt have done it so far without it :-)  :-)

There is a load relief relay which when not working will stop you wipers and heater from working.. it was number 13 on my fuse board.
