lights

All my lights worked.

I took the car apart for restoration, and now the brakes work, but indicators all round and reverse lights don't work….

PLease advise what to check for…before I spend a fortune on bulbs etc. if it's something less expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Start at the beginning.

Do the bulbs work? - Test them on a battery

Does the relay click on/off? - Try another relay

Is the fuse good? - Test on multimeter - should get reading no more than 2ohms if good.

Same for reverse lights

Test the bulbs

Short out the reverse light switch to prove that's ok. Pull the cables off the plug and join them together.

Try that

Cheers mat,

I got new rear clusters, and think it's diff bulb fitments for indicators, guess i should replace them first?

Also, indicators aren't working front, back or sides, is that suggestive of anything in particular?

Cheers again.

check your earth points, take an earth from the cluster to any bare metal see if they then work.

I never posted to 'rub wires together to see if theres power' on any forum.  You are very right in saying that would be bad advice.  The switch is a simple connect/disconnect.  I would have suggested testing for power at the switch but that seemed obvious.

Yes, bypass the switch which indeed means 'rubbing' the 2 cables together.

Is there another way of bypassing the switch????

Your apology is accepted but I think you've got the wrong person.

If you have new clusters make sure the plugs are seating correctly and the terminals in the plugs are clean and corrosion free.  They can need quite a shove to get them to seat properly.

i think its the way i read it, but i felt in case i read it that way i would point out its a bad idea to check for power that way, years ago a m8 don't it like that on my car and it melted some of the wire, and the cd player never got fitted in the end
