Bad earth problems or corroded bulb holders or faulty bulbs

you need to clean and remake all the light earth connections and check all bulb holders for corrosion . Keep it simple electrical problems like this usually are .

You can also get funny results like this by using twin filament bulbs when singles should be used and vice-versa.

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

so all the bulbs in rear sould be single filiment,so is it cause there is a bulb out in the back it makes the head light flash when braking cause there is not a complete curcuit?  :(

youve got the same problem as i had, chk my 'mot 2mo pls help' thread

it was the earth from the rocker cover, theres 2 on mine, 1 was holding on by 1 thread, i rewired it and all now works fine, took 10 mins

theres a list of earth points in the electrics archive thats very usefull, rule them out one by one,

easiest first

reason for the question is that if you havent, and you would know by now, then you can pretty much rule out the battery end of the circuit,

check by the door hinges, theres an earth wire in the rubber housing there mine were cut through from rubbing, check your boot theres a couple, and your rear window heater circuit, it earths passenger side at the back of the boot, defo chk the rocker cover theres 2 there,

those are the easy ones,

and i bet its one of them, they seem vulnerable to me, ive only a little bit of xperience on this
all the knowledgable guys are out in there perfectly running golfs!!!

rebuild in progress....
