KM Counter probelms

Hi all.

I have just bought a vw mk1 golf cabrio 1.8 (automatic)

I moved to amsterdam last year and sold my t25 van, I bought this golf with the cash and in hindsite i think the guys who sold it me were a bit suspect. aside fom this I have the following problem.

The kilometre counter does not work!!!

I would like to find out how to safely (without breaking it!!) remove the dash so I can see if there is a loose connection!

Any ideas?
