Is there somethign missing from here?
When trying to trace the issue with my electrics and specifically my Temp Guage i found this sensor iun the engine that doesnt seem to have anything attached
can anyone shed some light on this? does it need a wire attached or is it there for show?

I might be wrong but should have a spade connector on I think its the temp sensor no wonder your dash needle does not work you need to get it connected before you change your dash instrument as you mentioned the other day

That's the temp gauge unit, should have a red/yellow wire with a spade connected to it.

Haha i was just about to post a similar pic anyway if you trace wire back yu need to be looking in this area to see if its cut off
That is just below the hose where your missing connector is hopefully that should get it working again.

Update..
Took the car for a run to warm it up and see the temp guage working
Good news is it works.
Bad news is it split the hose from water pump to thermostat .
Now it could be a bad hose or it could be a bust thermostat

There is no hose from pump to thermostat. The thermostat is housed in the pump within the black plastic domed housing. These are prone to warping. If you have a split hose, which one is it? there should be the long "S" shaped one that comes from the alloy flange on the head, where your temp sender is. Or, the other is the one from the pump to the metal pipe that goes round the right side of the engine. I think i have both if you need them.

its the long S shaped one from where the temp sender is down the engine.
