indicators

hi hope this is in the right place just got mk1 golf gti conv its 1991 dont no if this is right or has an earthing fault when i put the indicator on left or right the side light front and rear come on they also turn off when indicator cancels should this be like this  :dontknow:

they have parking lights, When you park on the side of the road at night you can put the indicator on left or right and the lights come on to stop people crashing into your car.

the thing that confuses me ia that the indicators r flashing the same time as the lights r on

You have a fault there then, with the key out of the ignition your indicators should only work if the hazard switch is on!

thought so  key in ignition indicator flashes but front and rear side lights r on but no flashing could it be an earhing problem :?

just had a thought could it be a faulty indicator stalk

I would say earth or stalk too.
