I've got exactly the identical issue, wondering if its an earth issue as I've just rebuilt mine after painting?

Let me know how you get on pal!

Guys, I've got a similar issue, very frustrating, but it is intermittent. Every time I go to make the repair it resolves itself.  Not much help, I know, but I started looking at the hazard switch or the relay in the fuse box. Every time I get started, the issue disappears, thus may be a case of simply checking & proving all the connections at the rear of the fusebox and the hazard relay & switch. Or an earth to the steering column perhaps?

If mine fails again, and I find the fault before it 'self heals' I'll certainly advise.

Have either of you had an alarm fitted that could be doing this?, many installations of the time are those 'scotchlock' connectors, which are pretty poor.

indicator nightmare

hi all.still got a wiring fault, but ive discovered that the relay is getting no live feed.when i check the pins for the relay coming out of the fusebox i get no power till i turn on the lights and first position foglight switch, which works the indicators/hazzards.so what ive done is take a live wire and wrap it round the bottom pin of the relay then push into the fusebox.and hey presto no need to turn on lights or front fog.but the issue is the dim green light is staying on .the light gets brighter and flashes fine when hazzards/indicators worked, soon as you switch off dim light still there.ive checked the earths above fusebox .cleaned with electrical spray .took connector blocks off the fusebox one by one and sprayed them.number4 and 19 fuses have power at both ends so power is ok there.what ive noticed is the emergency brake light below headlight switch isnt working which works of the same fuse as the indicators.i am confused ive changed the relay ,switch, stalk,im now thinking faulty fusebox.if i could turn off the dim light on dash i could solder a wire to the bottom relay pin then push into fusebox to get indicators/hazzards working .the handbrake light i could live without working.any help would be appreciated .i think i might need an auto electrician ,ive almost finished my campaign after a major refurb thanks folks

fusebox i reckon. mine was the same till i changed the fusebox, all fuses and relays.

alternatively take the hazard light switch out too and give the contacts a good clean.

its the troubles of a car 20 years old, things start to corrode / moisture ingress over time can cause some funny little quirks.

here for a good time, not a long time

indicators/hazzards

thanks mate ,ill see how much a fusebox costs .it doesnt look too bad a job to change ive already spend many hours tracing fault so a few more wont hurt thanks

mine is very similar but the hazards work , the dash light works with the stalk but nothing at the bulbs , am investigating for broken dash loom wires first , brown blue earth wire from the switch to the fusebox is my 1st suspect

My issue came back at the weekend, loss of any indicator lamp on the instrument cluster. MOT next week, so tonight I stripped it down, changed the dash lamps and found that the indicator issue came to a bad connection at the rear of the clocks. Cleaned terminals and 're-tensioned' (bent) the plug connectors.  Solved this issue.
Next issue I blew the fuse that feeds the individual blue/black wire that connects onto the rear of the hazard switch. Exact same symptoms as lennyb.  Changed fuse and all worked fine. But this may give a steer towards where the issues are, the hazard switch has a separate bulb, multiplug connector and an individual uninsulated spade.
Also, these symptoms also occur when my immobiliser is 'unset', which I assume kills one of the main power feeds from the ignition barrel.

Point to this?, I had to change my ignition barrel last year as it burnt out and gave the same symptoms of half bright when indicator in 'off' position and full constant bright light when attempting to indicate either right or left.
A few pointers in the lengthy explanation above.  But in the meantime, mine is working.
Check that loose spade for the rear of the hazards, if it touches the chassis you'll lose a fuse, possibly third one from the right hand side.

indicator nightmare

hi folks ive finally got indicators/hazzards.i bought a brand new fusebox put it in.turned ignition on exactly the same ahh.so i thought what now. after checking wiring i went to the foglight switch and noticed that the white wire on the connecter had no 12v feed .this wire is the live feed to the front foglights.so after hours of scratching my head i cut the white wire and attached a 12v feed to the end going into the connecter and hey presto indicators working perfect.i then ran a fresh wire through the bulkhead to the foglights .then took a seperate 12v feed and attached it to the other end of the white wire inside the car to enable the front fogs to work .i dont know how i decided on this but everything ok except ive got a very faint green light on in the clocks but when i work indicators it lights up fine and correct .ive spent hours trying to fix this but the light on the dash is very dim so i think its maybe dodgy clocks .the clocks are working fine so im happy to have the slight light on clocks .i hope the mot tester doesnt say too much .i dont think it should be a problem as the light works fine apart from this almost ready for an mot cant wait to get it back on the road after the resto been almost three years, anyway thanks for the replys
