ignition problem

Hi. My problem is that when you start the car the spring in the ignition has stopped working and it stays in the starter position unless you turn it back manually. Sometimes some electrics wont work because you may have turned it back too far or not far enough. What do i need to replace?

Thanks Chris

Chris, you can replace the ignition switch (electrical part only).
you retain the same key barrel and steering lock. The switch is a bit
of a pig to change depending on the year and model..cost about
10 quid or there abouts from VW or after market supplier.
Haynes manual will help. J
