identifying wiper fault

Just been out in my car in the rain, now has been sunny weather for a while, so now the wipers have developed a fault. They were always a bit slow which never really bothered me, i thought it really gave the car character! however there's character and there is broken, this is broken!

Intermittent she has the best effort completing a cycle up/down - this used to take about 2.5 -3 secs, now it takes 6-7 seconds!

first click up the wipers move about half way up the screen and stop.

2nd click up - Nothing (worked fine before on full speed)

Now after reading quite a few wiper related issues on here, Im kinda thinking it needs a new motor, would this be correct in other opinions? also is the motor the only part i need or are there more?
Help on this will be much appreciated once again

hmmm am now a bit stuck as have just been out and bought a new mk2 wiper motor and fitted it correctly. They are working better, though not a lot better, they still struggle when about half way up the screen, then they fly back down again....im now thinking its a mechanism problem, but how on earth do u get to the thing!

Consult Haynes , remove the whole lot and strip it , the wiper spindles will be seized and require freeing off and re greasing .

hi chudd, I have removed the mech and seems one of the spindles is def siezed, can turn it with a pair of grips just! Iv removed the 'c' clip and 2 washers under it and sprayed wd40 over it, however its still the same, do u know how to actually get the thing apart?

Pulls out when the c clip [you have removed] is removed . Common to lock solid , leave it to soak overnight and gently tease it from the alloy tube tomorrow by waggling it back and forward gently while applying more wd40 , i once hit one gently with a hammer and broke the alloy mounting so go steady . Once its out clean with wire wool and plenty of oil or light grease will have it loose again .

 good luck with it .

Cheers mate, i did try to get it out but it was having none of it and almost did the same thing with snapping it off the alloy, however have now sourced a second hand mech with working spindles so all is now good! Iv never seen the wipers go this fast before, the mk2 wiper motor upgrade is def good...also free spindles helps a great amount too!!
