how do you turn off water level sensor

hi guys i need some help in regards to turning off the flashing light that you get when the water level is to low the reason being is that i had to change the water bottle expansion tank and it does not have a hole for the water level sensor even though it is topped up properly

all i did was get a scotch lock (a blue thingy for linking 2 wires together/taking power from another) and linked the two wires together, job done

i tried connecting the 2 wires and got no joy what am i doing wrong

Did it work okay before you changed the expansion tank?

You could take the bulb out of the dash.I had a similar problem years ago the light kept flashing I too tried joining the wires together still flashed so bought a new bottle sensor still flashed had an auto look at it he did not know how to fix but called local VW dealers who told him that there is a resistance through the sensor he checked the new one I had and it was faulty got a replacement sensor and then all OK.so unless you can put a resistance when the join cables together it will still flash,my is a 1998 GTI.

just remove the relay, its #42 or 43 above the fusebox. if that doesnt fix it the issue is the dash or the coolant temp sensor
