Horn Electrickery twin Horns

Having suffered long and hard with horn issues.

The problem is this they don't both work as they are twin horn both connected at the  same time, it's either one or the other?
Me old mate jelly diagnosed not enough current going to the horns, to power both.
so I am sure it is posiible to wire them up like this.

But what amperage/voltage relay would I need for the job? I have seen some with a tab that could be bolted down with.
Excuse my diagram I had to try and remember what the stuff was from 27 years ago, last time I was at school..

what about in line fuse or a diode to prevent back voltage.

Sorted!!!!

after checking all the connections as they were looking dodgy I renewed the spade connectors and checked the fuse box FAQ on here by CHUDD, cheers, looking at the horn fuse location it was stating 15 amp, where I had a 10 amp in place.
I changed the horn relay also, so a quick trip to halfords and a tenner or so later, they both going strong.

Cheers Jelly.. You thought about the Idea yet….?????

Did mine other day, was quieter than a monk in a libary. Cleaned up terminals on both horns & put new spades on. It did av a 5amp fuse in which was ok before i started but blew it cleaning terminals so put a 15 in. All's well now. :)

It's position 6 for the relay on the fuse board, they sell em at halfords.
Just ask for a 30 amp 12v relay 4 pin, they are £5.59.
If yours is twin horn, disconnect one and see if it works and vice versa.
I had poor spade connectors too, cut them off and put new on.
I bought a new set off e bay for about £8.00.

No worries,
The spades are the connectors that are crimped to the end of the wires that go to the horn.
You should have 2 wires with a plastic block on the end, this in turn plugs into a connector that splits the wires into 2 pairs that go to the terminals on each horn.
You can buy new spade fittings and a crimp tool to put them on with.
Mine were looking corroded.

Sorry to drag an old one up…I'm getting there, after reading this, realised I didn't even have a relay in No.6.  Bought one and now have a single tone horn.  Is this enough for MOT?  And is it now a case of checking the connections on the horns themselves for the two tone?

Should be fine. I only have one horn on mine and I have never had a problem…

So long as you have a horn sounding thats an MOT pass for that particular item.
I bought 2 new horns off E bay for mine as the others looked a bit passed there sell by date any way.
it was not a big job to do them.

Thanks chortle.  My dad has an old set of air horns he had on a mk1 cavalier back in the day, I remember they had a great 'peep' about them.  Now I know the electrical wirey side of things work, as long as there's enough power to get the air moving, is it just a case of connecting up to the new horns?

Yep plenty loud enough, just replace the spade connectors on the wiring and any old dodgy wiring replace.

…and did you mount them where the originals already were or re-locate them?  It's a bugger to get in there under the battery!
