Help with fog / main beam

MOT in the morning. Just come in from the garage    Turn on the lights and the fogs come on with the main beam and side lights, the fog switch does not turn them on or off. I think this is a fail

Are the inner lights definitely fog lamps, or are they main beams? In any case, it sounds like they're wired up wrongly if they're coming on with the sidelights.

In other words, is the vertical pattern on the lens thick, or thin? And what's the numbers and codes on the lens?

Thick and the code is 34525R8

hey.. it shud just be the main beams on the iner.. normaly the fog light is only on the back unless they have been added on extra.

Sorry for my ignorance are you stating the inner lihgts on the grill are not fogs but part of the main beam and should come on with the head lights   :?

Some cars have inner lamps wired (and the lens designed) as extra lamps for the main beam. Others (Campaign, GX) have fog lamps. Hence you need to firstly clarify the design of the lens/lamp before anyone can advise of the correct way they should be wired up.

If they're driving lamps, they simply piggyback off the outer lamps' main beams. If they're fogs…..its from position 1 from the foglamp switch but I'm not sure if it has a relay or not in there (I've always had single lamp grilles, except Scirocco which is differently designed again).

my 83 cab had a hella relay screwed to the inner wing on the passenger side, pretty sure it was for fogs though it wasnt wired up to anything when i got it.
either way fogs or spots they shouldnt come on with the sidelights, follow the wiring from them and see where they plug in!
