Help, mechanical idiot. new loom???

Hi, i took my 1.6 gti out of the garage yesterday for some general tlc. battery dead so i jump started off my daily. i drove about 10 miles then parked up thinking the battery would be charged enough to restart…… it didn't, tried to jump it again and no luck, it was turning over and over but didn't fire.
i assumed it was the battery so a mate give me one off his mk3 diesel he was scrapping. i put that on charge overnight, checked the water levels. put it in and it still doesn't start, even worse now, the volts gauge doesn't even move on the dash. lights come on, wiper works but it doesn't even turn over. my loom look in a bit of a mess.

think i may need a new loom? if so does anyone have one i can buy? its a 1.6 gti. what other looms would fit?

my gearbox won't take 2nd and 4th isn't easy either…seriously thinking about a full KR conversion but thats another post.

im thinking ignition switch possibly. pop the plug off it and bridge the red to the black wire, does the vdo come on? if so its your switch. try bridging the red to the red/black too, if car cranks over ok then its the switch again. if not its the wiring somewhere in the dash or the starter. bridge the starter red/black wire straight from the battery, if that gets it cranking its your wiring
