help dash stopped working

hi all

im trying to fit a set of mk1 gti dash clocks into my caddy the caddy was originally a diesel but now a digifant petrol

the problem i have is this once the gauges are plugged in and i turn on the key i dont get no fule gauge,temp gauge,oil light,alternator light or indicator lights

but if i turn high beam flash i get the blue light come up

i thought the gauges were a straight swap ie plug and play

any info guys

Only plug and play if you have the right model and year clocks to swap from.
