Help! ...can't turn off me wipers!

Started her up this morning and the wipers were on straightaway…even though the stalk is at 0?!? running @ normal speed like as if the stalk is at pos 1. If I goto pos 2 they speed up per normal behaviour. Pull/push for Intermittent/wash front and rear works per norm. They just wont quit when I bring the stalk back to pos 0. Before I go looking for a stalk switch is there anything else might be up?
I did notice a couple of drops of water on the fusecover, has been monsoon over here last few days.
Cheers, martin

If you've had water in your fusebox then it'll cause problems.  Get it dried outfully and see if it prersists, there may have been some water penetrated into the wiper relay causing it to malfunction, have you a spare you could try out?

I had this once, the fault lay inside the wiper motor/mechanism.
There are three live feeds to the motor, one to select first speed, one to select second speed and another permanent live so that the wiper has power to park when you turn it off.
The track between the first speed and the parking live had become shorted out.
I drilled the rivits out and was able to clean the short up.

You can do a simple test with a multimeter at the wiper connector to see if the volts are being removed from the 1 and 2 speeds, if they are then I would say it is the motor, otherwise it is the relay or stalks.

Hope that helps

Cheers,
Ade

thanks chaps, going for the relay first…
next problem is now figuring out HOW water is getting into the fuseboard reigon at all?! Bulkhead looks good as does scuttle, can't see any nasty holes etc. wondering if theres any other not so obvious ways in…can't have water getting in else I'll have a fast (but not so nice) pile of rust shortly :)

my mk2 leaks thru the windscreen seal in heavy rain.  I have a plastic bag stuffed over the top of my fusebox at the moment. not just any bag either, its a rare early spec sainsburys white bag, discontinued
