heating problem

heater blows warm - ish air for 10 seconds then freezing cold is it thermostat or heater matrix ???

note on the mk1 there is a heater valve in the engien bay, so check that too. when heaters are on cold it closes off flow! so when bleeding ensure the heaters are on hot, and visually check valve to ensure its fully open

hi thankyou  i removed the heater valved and on inspection where the cable  lever screws onto the sqaure pin on top has rounded off leaving the valve SHUT all the time.. ive removed the cable and refit valve in open position so should be hot all the time ?????   but still no hot air ?? i took the car round the block ensuring engine was warm on inspection all the rubber pipes are warm including to/from heater valve
any more ideas please

fingers crossed its not the matrix anyway! though its an easy job in a mk1 really
