Heater control bulb

Hi,

I would like to know how to get to replace the bulb - I have tried prising the back off the heater control panel but feel there could be an easier method.

Depending on the age of the car from memory there was at least 3 different types ... you replaced the whole heater front panel when the led failed ! Have you 12v at the socket when lights on ?

What you need to do is go to vw dealer and get the modified bulb holders. vw converted heater control illumination bulb holder to a capless 1.2w type. The ashtray has a different bulb holder but uses the same capless bulb. Note the bulb holders do not come with the bulbs. Hope this helps

If it's a S2 then pull off the blower control knob, then pull off the three sliders for the ventilation and hot/cold air controls.

The panel just pulls off the dash surround after you've done that.  The bulb holder fits (loosely) into a socket on the back of this panel you have removed. As Ianaa says, it's a 1.2w capless bulb that slots in to the bulb holder. You can get the bulbs from Halfords etc.
