headlights

I recently bought a mk1 and love it bit but I don't like driving in the dark.

First I thought it was strength of the beam but I realised its  beam pattern. They  don't "spray" outwards only really straight and not very far.

The headlights are crosshair crystals. Can they be adjusted or is it a lost cause and I should stump up the money for original ones

Please help, cos I drive like a granny at night. thnx

I remember seeing a web site somewhere about re-wiring the headlights through a new relay. It was on a Jetta I think, but it made a hell of a difference, the bloke used some thicker cable for better continuity.

New headlight bulbs would be easier tho!

Try adjusting the beam mate. I'd bet the previous owner didn't adjust them properly when he fitted them.

You'll see two adjustment screws mate and there's a guide on here somewhere. just do a search.

thnx tian thats exactly what I was looking for, got rubbish search skills.

I know an updated loom boost the strength of the light, but are HIDs that much brighter and go further.

done a search but there seems to be mixed reactions.

the clear glass lamp units tend to be rubbish compared to oem hellas. try adjustment + uprated wiring first, if no help then i would go back to proper hella lamps
