Headlight trouble

hi
ok i'l explain thius the best i can,
I turn on the lights and the rears go on fine but no headlights, sidelights or main beam are not working. pull arm back as if to flash and the high beam flashes on and off no problem, push the arm forward and the high beam stays on as it should.
Any ideas what this might be?

High beam/low beam is selected by pulling the stalk forwards to latch between the two (flash is also done by pulling it forwards). So I'm not sure what you mean when you say you push the arm forward - is it sprung to go forwards after you let go of it???

With no sidelights working, it sounds like a dodgy switch - either or both, the high/low beam stalk and the main headlight switch. Its possible to take them apart and clean up all the little internals etc, also the connector can go corroded.

Do you have dashboard illumination when the lights are on?

sorry not looked at the car for a while as its sat in the garage, so the fowards backwards thing might have been round the wrong way but what i was trying to say was is the high beam works.

Side lights and low beam are not working, so you think that this maybe the switch on the dash?

The dash does illuminate when lights are on :)

It could be bulbs, fuses or switch. You need to get a proper wiring diagram for the car then use a multimeter to check the electric circuit at various points along the wiring.

For example a good first check might be to look at the fuses, then check that +12V is there for the sidelight and dipped beam connection to the bulbs.

The wipers / washers, lights and blowers are connected off the same 12 feed as when my ignition switch went nothing would work!!
However the cr still started…..

I would start there. Or can you get hold of a power probe? If not are you close to Plymouth?
