Headlight switch question

Hi,

Just sorting out some electrical gremlins on the Caddy, and have most of them fixed now. However, I have a question about the headlight switch

Basically the light for the switch is on all the time when ignition is on (ie, switch illuminated all the time). Is this right ?  I would have thought it should only come on when the lights are turned on ?

Previous owner had taken bulb out (!)

Caddy is a '92 - same electrics as a late Cabrio

Oh, and I have a bulb hanging by the wires not going anywhere that flashes when the hazard lights are on. This is in addition to the bulb in the hazard light switch. Any ideas where this should go ?

I could bypass the problems with a bit of rewiring, but would rather solve them 'properly' rather than mask over them.

Any help / clarification gratefully received !

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

I think that the head light switch should be illuminated at all times. Mine comes on with the ignition and stays on regardless of whether or not I have the lights on.

As far as the flashing buld goes, I only have the led in the dash that flashes with the hazard switch. Nothing else. I take it that your led works as well?

I've noticed the switch illuminated when off in the past - I think it's so you can find it in the dark!

Great !  Thanks Dan / Ian. The indicator light in the dash does flash with the hazards. The mystery one is a 'proper' bulb in it's own holder. Looks like it should be shoved into something, but what I don't know. Only the permanantly on horn to worry about now (I think I know the route of the problem for this one - fingers crossed …..). Last owner had fitted a switch under the light switch for the horn instead of solving the problem !
Thanks again,
Mark
