headlight bulbs

what headlight bulbs will fit a 1983 gti, i've brought some h4 osram silverstars from power bulbs but they won't sit right in the headlight  

H4 bulbs should fit, all Mk 1 GTI Golfs had H4 lamps as standard, but not for the driving/fog lamps

NB - the H4 bulbs aren't symmetrical.

There's a flat on one side to make sure the dip beam points down.

Check the old bulbs are H4s - might be a custom install of some unheard-of bulb.
