Headlight and foglight issues
Hi, thought I'd have a go at fixing the headlight/foglight issues with my car today and started with changing the bulbs - although there was nothing obviously wrong with the ones that were in like an idiot I went out and spent £15 on 3 new bulbs and after replcing them nothing had changed at all
Basically as per my little picture the main N/S headlight is always out (the sidelights I notice are seperate bulbs) and when switched on the O/S fog works but nothing front the N/S
Are these all connected in series and if there is a quick fix does anyone know how??
Electrics is my weakest point when it comes to fixing up cars so if anyone has any ideas it would be really appreciated

Have you checked the fuse for the headlight, i believe these are seperate for each side. (well so says my haynes). My fogs are run in series so you could just have a bad connection for the one that doesnt work.
Just another thought does both the side lights work?

Hi Dan, yeah both of the sidelights are fine, I'll have to go look at the fusebox when we get some more light, I've come in now as its doing my head in
I'm also wondering if it could be an earth judging by some of the posts on here regarding lights
Cheers Tim

Centre fogs will come on with a fog switch left side of the dash but only when you have your main lights on. Not sure what year your car is but early cabs were fogs and the later ones spots. So if you only have one switch for all then I would say spots. There are lots of peeps on here with the later cabbys who would be better clued up on the spots than I am as mine is an early one with fogs.

Must be spots then as they only come on when I pull the stalk back for main beam

Yep spots then. There are fuses for both low beam and high beam so I would check them 1st. If your not sure which fuses they are there is a thread on here telling you locations.

Cheers Dan, there's at least one fuse out so I'll start there! Thanks for your help, Tim

No probs glad to help. If its not the fuses or a dodgy wire then I'm sure there is someone on here with a bit more experience that could help.

All sorted Dan, after messing with a multimeter for a while and establishing what was going on in the end I swapped the bulbs over on both the spots and headlight and they both worked!??
BIZARRE!
But they work so now I'm happy 8)

LOL very bizarre. Well glad they sorted now, the police love tugging vehicles with dodgy lights. Had a prob with my n/s headlight the other day but turned out to be a loose fuse so was easy fix.
