Head unit wiring

I've just removed the original single speaker headunit to fit a newer one. I knew i was going to have to do some re wiring with the age of the car but i was wondering if someone could help me out with what's what here

I know the old VWs usually just have a permanent live but im getting nothing from anything here, with or without the ignition on :dontknow:  The red wire will ring out but theres no power, can anyone give me any pointers?

No sorry , but if it was me i would run a new power from position 'G' on the fuze board with an in line fuze , check with a meter or lamp first the top of these are usually ignition live .

You could use that brown earth , other ones look like panel light wires ?

Matter of interest did the old unit work  :dontknow: if it did you must have blown a fuze ?

I hadn't even thought of a blown fuse  :banghead:

The old head unit wasn't working when i bought the car and the interior light isn't working either thinking about it

I've got power at that plug now, it was a blown fuse

I can't spot position 'G' though, all of my fuse box appears numbered only. It's a late 83/early 84 Jetta lx if that makes any odds?  :dontknow:
