Halfords broke my electric hood!

Halfords broke my electric hood!

Went to halfords the other day to get an original Blaupunkt radio installed. Guy said he could do it no trouble - I believed him!

After leaving the car there for half an hour, I got a call saying that the radio was broken and they couldn't install it! When I got back to Halfords, the guy showed me that true enough the LCD screen on the radio was duff and no good so no point instralling it. However, he had started to mess about with the wiring!!!

When I got home, I noticed that the electric hood (which was working perfectly before hand) now didn't work! The switch to function it is completely dead, with no noise coming from the car at all when it is pressed down or up…

I know that the hood works off the ignition circuit and on mine it works when the key is in the ignition but not turned….The guy at halfords did cut some wires from the aftermarket radio loom intending to install the old blaupunkt radio….is it possible that he has cut something that powers the hood? Looking at the wiring, i can't see how any live feed to the radio would also power the hood?

I have checked all the standard fuses (1-20odd) and they are fine. From a previous thread on here, I believe that the fuse for the hood is fuse 19….is this correct….?

Would appreciate some help please?

Thanks as always!

Do you have uninsured loss recovery on your car insurance? If so, get legal advice there. Otherwise, just ask them for their insurance company, get a couple of quotes for the work to fix the stuff damaged and feel free to include car hire, consequential losses, etc and send them the quote for it all.

I had a similar issue (but with a better outcome) when I wanted one of their own brand handsfree phone kits installed. They spent 45 minutes with the car (well, van) and couldn't work out how to get the stereo out, yet alone deal with the wiring, separate amp, or trim. The kit included free fitting. So I did a deal, got it for around half price and fitted it myself - WITHOUT them having already damaged my car!

Ok so we've learned a valuable lesson here, but just so I know what's going on when I go and bang their heads together tomorrow, can some please help with these issues, (idiots guide if necessary):

1. What actually is an inline fuse, and where would they be for the hood? I have checked the standard fuse box and these are all fine.

2. Does the ingnition switch live that runs into the radio actually have anything to do with the power hood?

Thanks

DB….

An in-line fuse is exactly that mate. If you have an amp fitted to your car to run the sub you'll jave one on that too.

The roof going may be a coincidence but then again it may not, Lord knows what happened to the car when they had it, who can say?!?!

poor quality grounding using to lower amp cable. i.e using a 13amp power cable and a 4amp grounding cable. the resistance build up across the amp can fry the power board. :dontknow: stap in the dark here by the way i've seen a few amps blow because of poor grounding.
