Fuse Box and General wiring

Evening All,

Hope all is well,

I have a MK1 GTI cabby 1991 that i am trying to put back together

The bloke who had it before me has been doing weird botch jobs on it. Looking at the wiring n this car its a complete mess i took out the dash etc only to reveal wires here there and everywhere!

1. Fuse box wiring is a mess it seems like someone has just been connecting wires randomly example the electric roof wire was linked to the a motorised aerial and the rear boot courtesy light is connected to the headlights
2. There seems to be bits missing like the ashtray wiring, the wire that illuminates the heater control panel

I need some help/advice is their anyone who lives in the Manchester area who can assist me with the i am wiling to pay but not made of money or any advice on where i should start shall i completely strip the wiring out and start from scratch…

I really want to get this motor back on the road but these little bits are keeping me off…

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

SNK

i would think about binning it all and get a fresh loom if its been badly hacked about. you can at least use the new one as a basis for repair and/or use the new/old one for spares or whatever is easiest.

see my sig jetta89.pdf which is full mk2 pre-90 diagram which is mostly ok for your car, though there are differences in the dash and reverse switch wires amongst others. what it does have though is complete internal trace layout for the fusebox so it makes it much easier to understand what goes where. also see my fusebox faq:
