Funny wipers

Post

So was sold the golf with a wiper problem, the previous owner put a switch that turns on the wipers come on but only on one speed, they told me it must be the relay or on need of a new motor as they have just replaced the sticks. So my question is, are they right? And also seen that put a mk2 motor is a good thing to do. As I have a mk2 just sitting on the drive I might as well just take it from it. Also would I able to take the relay from the mk2? If there is anyone that can give me some instructions to do the swap that would be very helpful, thanks for any help!!

yep and yep. the relay is 19 or 99, the motor swaps over but you will loose the lower mounting point. was never a problem in my cabby. need to cut a length of wire off the donor mk2, then crimp spades on and pop into mk1 loom

And what are the pros ? Just a better motor ?

yeah its newer so better nick, im not sure if its actually any faster just that all mk1 motors are billions of years old. mk3 golf uses the same motor so they fit as well. if you do go looking for mk3 donors, swipe the 99 variable intermittent wiper relay too for added awesome

allows you to adjust the interval between the intermittant wipes, very handy ;)

Done the relay and that fixed it, but not working full there quite slow itsvfine on the low speed but any higher it only speeds up a tiny bit. Will a new motor be the best thing to change? Thanks

to start with i would strip the wiper spindles, clean and regrease.

if that doesn't help then nip to scrappy and rob a mk2 or mk3 golf wiper motor, be sure to cut off a bit of the loom with plug on it as well. then either splice to mk1 loom, or crimp spades on and push into mk1 plug.

the mk2/3 motor is a direct fit, but is missing the lower mount. it makes no odds though it wont go anwhere! ran my cabrio like that for ages till i sold it on
