Fun Fun Fun - Shot My Car With An Electric Gun!!!

Hey all, hope everying is going well with your quality cars!!!

So I'm well skunnered (Scottish term for aint got a clue! :)) with what the hell is wrong with my electrics!

Heres the script, I had fun and games with my indicators not working, that was in the end a simple case of my right front indicator coming loose from the earth….but now everything seems to be going pear shaped  :banghead:

My hazards don't work anymore, when I turn them on the indicator light goes on full on the dash which used to indicate a fuse.  Also my blowers have all of a sudden gone from a porn star to an old granny with a whistle! :dontknow:

So using my phenomenal troubleshooting abilty's I changed my fuses (I can almost here your applause from here   ) but this hasn't done didly squat!

Once again I hold my hands up  :dontknow: and accept that you guys know far more than me and so its time to open it up to the forum! :P

As usual any advise is more than appreciated, you may want to know its a 91 Clipper Karmann Cabriolet 1.8 8v with a leaking roof!

Cheers Guys

Davey!

Hi mate, maybe a bad earth still. Have you checked the earth strap which is on the back right corner of the rocker cover? If this is missing/loose all hell can break loose!

Cheers for the quick response… 8)

Sadly mate if I'm completely honest I aint got a scooby what that just meant. :dontknow:

I'm assuming (and you know what they say about the mother etc) that the earth strap is the earth cable running across the engine bay but when you mention…

" the back right corner of the rocker cover"

You've lost me.

As I say I aint the best with cars.  Would you mind speaking in simple terms for me :|

Really appreciated

I think this may help, the rocker cover has a wire from the right top corner, as looking from the front of the engine bay. too the bulkhead on the bolt that holds the ignition coil……. yes I can't explain it easy either.

I think the best thing to do is find a person who does know and get him/her to explain what things are and go from there…best to be cautous.

One warning if you disconnect this earth wire without disconnecting the battery then the engine will be live so a spark/shock could occur.

What I'm saying is get someone in the know to show and explain pitfalls then you will be more confident in repiars, I can assume most people on this site learnt from others showing them how to.

Be safe and have fun

Nice 1 Rob cheers!

I got a mate at work who knows more about cars (not hard  ) to show me what I'm talking bout!

I will check this over the weekend, I assume I'm just checking to make sure that the cabling is solid and make sure I disconnect my battery first?

Getting There

Right so, its all starting to make sense… :D

I found that infact my fuse had blown on the hazards, and even I could sort that myself so that was no problem, also found that the earth on the main rocker was fine

So when driving I noticed that the blowers do function but when stationary they don't, through my phenomenal troubleshooting abilities I have worked out that the blower motor has probably gone

Was wondering if any of you guys have any tips on the change over of one of these and how much I should be expecting to pay?

Don't worry my mechanic buddy said he'll do the work but I really should source the part myself

Cheers in advance

Davey
