fuel relay

hi does anyone know how to test the fuel relay on a gti mk1  whilst out of the car   thanks

you cant really as it needs a rev counter feed to trigger. if you bridge the 2 large pins on the relay socket together and the fuel pump runs you know the wiring to the fuel pump plus the pump itself is ok :)

yes number 62 and 63

62 at least is a k-jet relay at least, these require a rev counter signal to work so does your rev counter work ok?  are the connections on the coil the right way round, the red/black & green wires run to terminal 1 or -ve side of coil, the black wires run to terminal 15 or +ve side of coil

I am assuming you're running this car on the original k-jet managment right, its not a 16v or something random?

breakdown guy sprayed start up and the car fired up so i think ignition is ok would that be right

ignition yes, but the relay requires a rev counter signal to trigger. if say the red/black wire had fallen off the coil the ignition system would still be fine and car would run on easy start, but the rev counter signal to fusebox would be gone which would stop the relay from triggering

at the back of the engine bay,rhs as you look at it from front of car or just follow the centre lead from the distributer and youll find the coil.

if you look at the coil, on 1 side should be 2 black wires, and on the other a red/black and a green, or 2 red/blacks.  black side is marked 15 or +, red/black side is marked 1 or -.

Also, in general the +ve side of the coil has 3 spade pins on, and the -ve has 2. not always, but usually!
