fuel pump not working

Hi,

I have a 1990 1.8 gti cabriolet, its the clipper big bumper model.

Basically when I bought it the bloke said the fuel pump was turning on, so he had run a new power line from somewhere on the fusebox with a fuse inline, this goes to the lifter pump that does the fuel from the tank (under back seat), but runs in parralel to give the under car fuel pump power. The problem is with this is its not controlled via relay, so may flood the engine or cause running issues.

I'm guessing if it runs the fuel pump is ok and it is more likely a relay or wiring issue.

Can someone tell me which is the fuel pump relay, I have found 4 relays in sockets in the boot is this all of them?

Also a wiring diagram would be ideal, or any other suggestions.

Would it be worth taking to a car electrical person and getting them to look at it or will that cost a fortune?

Also it couldn't be ecu or something faulty?

Regards

Matt

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the electric forum for relay locations, a likely culprit by the sounds of it.
