Fuel pump constanly running

car is a mk1 with a 16v engine, it uses the early mk2 16v engine loom, into a late mk1 blade style fusebox, however the fuel pump is constantly running even with just the ignition on.

my question to you is, should the relays (specifically the fuel pump relay) on the fusebox be the mk2 16v relay or the mk1 relay?

Mk2 and MK1 pump relays are basically the same [excluding series 1 GTI] if your pump runs all the time i will wager that wiring / relay has been doctored to make it run with ignition on .

This by passes the coil pulse feature . In the event of a mishap [accident etc] the pump running all the time could be a safety issue . You can buy various cut off devises try Deamon Tweeks site .

2 types of relay that fit in the mk1/mk2 fuse box

if you look at the pins the colours of the base vary

brown base prime on ignition for 2 secs

white base only prime when cranking

obviously both prime while running

Thats how i understood it should work, exactly like a mk2 16v does.

Primes for 2secs when you switch ignition on, then runs when cranking/running.

Not looked at the base of the relay, but its a 67 relay and is blue, this is what the mk2 16v used.

Mine primes all the time too, but before I changed it, it used to prime for 2 seconds, anyone know where you can get the ones that prime for 2 seconds?

Well I phoned VAG earlier on, and they said they're dicontinued, which I would ahve guessed, GSF don't stock them anymore.. and apparently the MK2's have a seperate pin setup?

Shed some light please?
