Front lights / front fogs or driving lights

Ok I have gone through the post and cant find anything like this.
I have a 4 lamp grill
a 2 position fog light switch
the Inner lights are 34525R8 lamps
Main lamps consist of 2 bulbs, a side light and a 3 pin Halogen.

With Ignition on…
1. Light switch off - NO FLASH when using stalk.
2. Light switch on 1st Pos. - Side light on, Halogens on dim. - NO HIGH / FLASH when using stalk
3. Light switch on 2nd Pos. - Drivers Side light on only, Halogens on Bright. - INNER LIGHTS / FLASH when using stalk

No difference using 1st position of the fog switch. ( Doesn't seem to have any effect for any thing)

Question.
Why cant I flash with the light switch off?
Are the inner lights Fogs or Driving lights?
Why does the drivers side light stay on when lights switched to main beam?

Thanks for any help

check the wiring to the wiper stalk, sounds liek you have lost the permanent live feed. what year is the car/what fusebox does it have?

the inner lights could either be fogs or spot lights, depending how they are wired!

afaik the mk1s with the inner lamps fitted as std had fogs, the models which had the inner lamps fitted as an optional extra were spots.

right, check the red/yel wire to pin 30 of the stalks, this should be permanent live.  might as well check the fuses 9, 10 and 21 & 22 while you're poking about under the dash. pop the fuses out and use a multimeter, I've seen them get a hairline crack which is hard to spot.

the live feed to the flasher switch comes from B13 on the back of the fusebox, have a look at the fusebox sticky and that will show you where all the plugs are :)

Ok,
Well, I checked the fuses and they are all fine, I checked the stalk the red / yel feed is permanent ign on/off lights on/off.
B13 from the fuse box is red/yel so as above must be fine.
It seems to me like a relay has gone down but there should n't be a relay. - still confused

the flasher part on the stalk can sometimes fail due to melting plastic inside getting in the way of the contacts. Its actually on the washer stalk. If you have a mate nearby or a spare I would change that unless you are confident its fine. The bit with the red dot is on the washer stalk, indicator stalk clips into that bit.

Would that effect flashing with the lights off.
My Point is when my lights are on I can flash ok its just when they are off I cannot.
the pins are
2 White 1 red/Yel
3 Yel
4 White

1 is always live
2 is only live when lights on
3 is live when flash is off
4 is live when flash is on.

Thanks

Paul

Problem I have is when engine is running and main lights are off, when I pull the light stalk towards me it doesnt flash anything up front. Which I am expecting it to, can someone confirm for me if it should, as if it should I am stumped as to what the cause is.

Any ideas where to start looking if its meant to, from below looks like lights, fuses and stalks seem fine.

When the lights are on main beam the stalk works as I would expect, ie pull towards me and it latches full beam on and little blue LED lights on the dash. Do the same again and it drops to main beam and blue LED goes out.

If lights are off and I pull stalk towrdas me I can still hear it latch. Also if i do this just the once and then turn lights on main beam they are already latched to full beam.

glad to hear it was the problem, if your after a new unit try German Swedish French (GSF).
remember to take out the white plug/stopper on the new one if you have intermittant wipe.
