Fixed starting problems

Ahhh i have been caught out by Old things wearing out again. Bit like me really..lol

Have had a starting problem with the golf for a while, since i bought it really. Been scratching my head for months till sunday when it really pissed me off , to get off my fat ass and fix it.

Here goes. Wake up in morning , get in Car, Turn Key, Dash lights light up twist a bit more, click the relay in the fuse box, No starter!

It used to be all right, it only did it when i left the car for a few days. I would get a peice of wire and bridge out the terminal on the Starter with wire to the battery. Starts no problem. as long i have the ing`n on.

If i start the car drive for a while and park and tried to start it again it starts with out a hiccup. Leave it for an hour it would not start on the key.

Thought it was a duff battery so i changed that month ago, still the same. I knew i had a voltage drop somewhere and no power to the starter.  I can hear the relay clicking evertime i turned the key. SO i decided to take out the the relays and take em apart and clean the contacts. One relay was pitted to hell and very black. Give it a bit loving with a small file and it like new now. Put the caps back on the relays. Starts every time. Yippeee! Old worn contacts that need a bit of TLC.

Dont you just love old things!.

Thought id share that with you.
Andy
