Few electrical niggles - Horn and front fogs.

Since I got my 82 gti the front fogs have not functioned (the rears are fine and all other lights work correctly) - The horn was working fine until yesterday when I rather stupidly blew the number 3 fuse fiddling with the stereo wiring - Now it doesn't work at all - I get a small click sound from the buttons on the wheel, no noise at all from the fuse box area though. Have checked the number 16 fuse (for horn) and that is ok….

If anyone has any ideas on how to solve either issue they'd be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Andy

Good advice cheers - Any idea why shorting the 16 fuse would cause the horn to start failing though?

Old age , you can play with one thing and another for no apparent reason goes faulty .

Just a thought on the fogs… you are using the second 'click' on the switch arent you?

1. is for the rears
and
2. is for the fronts

Just a thought because I fiddled with my headlamp wash for months (literally) and one night went into the garage with the lights on and spray/wiped the windscreen and the HLW worked - then it dawned on me!!! Dur!  :redfaced:  But if no one mentions it, you may never know.

i now have a problem with mine on the campaign since i had a new alarm fitted and they pigged about with the fuse box

had the same problem last year with the cabby electrician had to fit new wiring from the fuse box as no power was going to that fuse from the battery side you would think a horn is simple to power but obviously not in the case of the Mk1…

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

Had me hoping there - Unfortunately not the case….

Thanks for all the help, seems i'm in for a bit of a struggle - Any ideas what to check first?

Fuses
Relay
Bulbs
Connection
Switch
Power

…. in no particular order, although I'd probably check that you've got power going to them first!!!

Freaking A! My horn is back, seems in all my fiddling I'd knocked the relay a little - What a douche… But a result nonetheless.

Now for the damn fogs….
