engine teething probs HELP!!

mk1 golf gti 1600,,  engine fires from cold first time everytime,, but ticks over on about 400rpm coughing, cold start valve is plugged in but dont think it works by sound a this,, also when warm switch engine off and go to shops, come back and it turns over but doesnt fire,, then after about 10 mins trying n a fag later :oops:  it springs to life but sounds like its flooded then a blip of the throttle n shes fine again,,  i havent the foggiest,, dontknow:

hi there, the warm starting sounds like weeping injectors.
the keep leaking fuel after the cars stopped and flood the engine, there are posts on here showing how to check injectors are good.

no more likely the injector nozzle leeking, they can get little bits of debris in the injector which can stop the nozzle closing, used to be able to ultrasonicly clean them, but think that died a death when injector prices dropped. best to check the spray pattern (again explained on here somwhere) and if there knackered fit some more, 4 new injectors will set u back around a ton.

:banghead:  got to fork out 150 notes for break lines and a cv boot to pass MOT then another94 to tax the beast,, love it to bits though,, cheers for the info  :D

I've got the same syptoms on my 1600.. recently done prowlers injector test any they all leak a little  :cry: causing the bad warm starting

low idle on start up could be the aux. air valve on the back of the inlet manifold, not tested mine yet but when you start the car, squeeze the pipe coming out of the valve and the revs should drop and then pick back up when you let the pipe go (if it's working correctly)

easy,, checked air valve on the back of the inlet manifold and revs dropped as they should,, and my injectors are weepin jus like yours,,  :banghead:
