Electrics = Stress

Well i started on the car at the weekend and just wondering if any way could confirm a few questions

I was told that the few pump on the car was broken hense it not turning over, however i have been informed that regardless of that the car should still try to turn over, and theys nothing at the turn of the key. However when i do turn the key the rev counter goes up so am thinking a short? then the relys are making some funny noises (had that on my old bay).

Also i can hear the pump starting when i turn the key so thought give i will try giving it a bump but nothing they no spark? Not sure what to do now tempted to take the toad off it and try and trace all the wires? anyone no a good auto sparky in the north east that i could pay to a least put me on the right route?

Mechnics are fine but electrics do my head in. Anyone got an ideas?

IMO first thing would be to get the car turning over on it's own, what car is it?

if you can hear a noise from the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on, it's working fine (some GTI's prime before cranking over, some don't)

can you hear a click form the motor when you try starting it on the key?

things I'd try would be the connections to the starter motor (check voltage is getting to it), if there's power, try another solenoid and/or starter motor

if there's no power.. maybe the ignition switch?  :dontknow: or a wiring fault

once you can get the car turning over by itself, it'll be easier to check for a spark etc.. plenty of info around here  :)

Hope that helps get you started (pun intended  :lol: )
