Electrical Help

Im getting to the end of my list of things to do to my 91 Cabby, so im down to the bits that dont work but i can still drive it fine.
I think the bulb has gone in my dash, all the other lights work just not them, could it just be a loose wire… If not how can i get to the bulb to replace it.
The digital display screen does not work, its not essential i fix it but would be nice. I have no clue where to start so any advice would be much appreciated.
If i get that sorted i only need to fit a new distributer and hood and im ready for next summer…… Or the begining of a new list of things to do…….. :P Happy Days!!!!!!!

I to have a mk1 cab and am after some help on the digital display as mine doesn't work either. On occaion it very very faintly lights up briefly when the engine starts but that's it…. read through some posts and people have suggested the earthing wire that attaches to the rocker cover. Had a quick look today and it is there but looks really grimy so will give that a clean and fit a new ring clip…anything else we should look for?

I changed the bulbs behind my dash and had a bit of a 'mare doing so. It's worth it in tghe end but it can be difficult. If you have a manual it's worth a good read first. There are only three lamps back there and a handfull of screws to remove. My main problem came from busting the speedo cable. Good luck with it and if you need any direct help let us know.

Thanks for the link tian….where did you get the LED's from and are they worth the swap? I need to pull apart my dash as the fan doesn't work. I noticed you've got a K&N filter…is that worth adding on?

Thanks, Rory

Regarding the LEDS, don't bother. The fitting is a pain in the neck! I couldn't get them all working properly and the last thing you want is for one to konk out after you've put it all back together again. I fitted standard bulbs from VAG in the end and they were not only easier to fit but just as bright, much better than the bulbs that were in from new. these loose brightness over time as all standard filiment bulbs do.

The filter is a matter of opinion really, I always fit them to my cars, they have varying degrees of impact. On my S60 it makes a huge difference!!! On the Golf not so much but it does make a nice sound without going all the way to an induction kit, which is a little too 'Boy Racer' for me.

If it helps I can send you a pdf section out of a manual which ew very kindly mailed me :notworthy:. He's the man to be honest, I'm just a 'young' Padawan.

Go to your nearest VAG Stealer and get a set, they should have them in stock and they only cost a few squid. There should be three of them in total, one 2Watt and two 1.2Watt.

I'll dig out the CD with the pdf and try and get it over to you tonight, can't promise though but deffo by the weekend.
