Electrical fault - can anyone help?

Dear All,

I have a lovely 1989 Cabrio DX engine - I love her to bits and installed a new battery some weeks ago.  Ever since - sometimes when driving, flashing my headlights or turning the headlights on causes the engine to stall - the battery cuts out as the clock goes to 00.00 and the radio resets itself.  this is not only annoying but worrying with winter coming - i don't want to be stuck a long way from home.  Any ideas?  It must have something to do with the battery as I said, this problem only started after installation of a new battery from a local car spares shop.  All connections are tight and correct.  The battery is not oversized, its the standard recommended size as per VW spec.

Please help!

Many thanks,

Vishal

check that your fuse box is dry, if its got condensation/mostuirue on/around it  remove it and dry it out in your airing cuboard over nite or some where warm, then re fit with a plastic bag over it, not saying this is the problem but *most* electrical problems on mk1s have wet fuse boxes.
cheers
