Electric windows

Hi,
 i own a 1983 gti its got electric windows the drivers side works but is really slow and the passangers side does not work at all. Any ideas on whats the problem or is there a conversion kit so i can put winders on there which i would prefer.

Lord knows what the problem is mate, we can't see it so it's impossible to say!

As for aftermarket kits they are all over ebay, I got one when the motor in my car went, just wired it up to the new motor.

Your motors could be suspect, especially the side that doesnt work at all.

However If you take the door cards off and grease all the runners and moving parts this could sort out at least the side thats moving slowly. I would do this first before buying any replacement parts.

You never know it might even be a chaffed cable! Check the door grommits, long shot but you never know!
