Electric roof??

Hi guys ive got a mk1 cab ive bought the elec roof motor,rams wiring loom E.T.C has anyone got a bit of info on how to fit it to a non elec cab? ive heard a bit of welding is needed???

Hi there -  I am fairly new to the owners club and am not sure if any one has covered it before. But if not, the conversion is set out on 3 pages p335 - 337 with a diagram and pictures and description in the "VW Golf and Jetta restoration manual" published by Haynes (written by Lyndsay Porter) haynes ref H448 - some on Amazon for £12 ish.

You need the brackets to mount the pump, rams and electrical relays and ideally would need to carefully unpick the brackets from a scrapped vehicle.  The guide gives measurements and illustrations on where to re-attach them in your car. Once you have the right bits, it looks straight forward enough - although they temporarily removed the parcel shelf supports to gain access to weld the brackets inplace - again by unpicking the welds and then re welding them back in afterwards. Not a two minute job, but you end up with a factory setup when installed.
