Electric hood stopped working! - Mk1 Karmen sportline

Hello all,

Can anyone help me please, my pride and joy has a severe problem in that the sun is actually out & I cant put my roof down! :(

The roof just suddenly stopped working, anyone got any ideas? Had one friend have a look and he managed to get it to go down from within the boot and suggested replacing a relay which I have done but it still dont go down?
(Sorry not a clue what he did but he seemed to think something was wrong in the boot which is why he thought it was the relay?)

Another friend is an auto electrician but wont touch it without a full wiring diagram, can anyone supply me with one or point me in the direction of where/how to get hold of one as cheaply as posible?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me……

Paula

Many thanks, where is the fuse for the hood? is it in the main fuse box in the front of the car or in the boot by the relays? I will pass the files you uploaded to my auto electrician friend and hope he can sort it out for me……….

Thanks again for your response….

Paula.

Hi

I think what your friend did in the boot is change the roof to manual mode.

This can be done by turning the key attached to the electric hood pump anti clockwise. The key should be situated on the left hand side of the boot as you look in, (looks a bit like a radiator key). There should be a black cover with a circle cut out where the key is visable. You need to turn the key anticlockwise until it stops - it can then be lowered or raised manually. To change it back to automatic turn it clockwise until it stops.

This could be useful if the opposite happens and you get the roof down but cant get it up again!

I was after a loom diagram for a mk1 a while back and got given the diagram above on vw vortex but I think its for the mk3 convertable.
that diagram has a control unit where as my mk1 has a stack of relays, does anyone have the diagram for a mk1 ?

I scanned that from a mk1 cab manual, it's the real deal.

ew, is this from a late model? is it different on the earlier models.

Like I said, mine has 4 relays not a control box.

Mine is also the same as the pics in the haynes mk1 restoration manual.

Does anyone know what the purple wire does ? Mine connects 2 of the relays and also goes towards the front of the car but some one has cut it half way and not terminated it.
