Driving me insane !!

I am having a problem with my windscreen wash…

The pump works has been tested independantly, there are no blockages as have wired the pump and reservoir up direct from the battery and have successfully got washer fluid all over my windscreen.

have tested the wires and get 12 plus volts…then the moment the wires are connected to the pump on the reservoir the voltage drops and I end up with not even half a volt….

Why, why, why,….please help me i cannot understand this…..

have you checked the earth wire on the plug? multimeter on
+ on batt and the other wire should show now 12v, ifnot you have a earth
problem,1 wire should be pos other should be earth.

You have a very high resistance connection somewhere in the circuit causing this problem, to eliminate the earth connect your multimeter to it at the pump plug and then to the battery neg terminal, you should have a reading around 0 to 2 ohms roughly, I would imagine the most likely culprit is the stalk switch and it might be worth having a look at it and seeing if you can clean up the contacts a little to improve matters, let us know how you get on!

similar to this, i currently have no fans in my 84 cabby, the switch was never connected when i bought it ! (i got it cheap enough) when i located the connector there was charred marks on the connector, but after testing showed signs of life. i connected it and heard a small electrical type noise but no fans, then the ominous click from near the fuse box. looked at the fuse and it had not just blown but split in half. (needless to say the next purchase was a mini fire extinguisher!) however still non the wiser. any ideas, stuck heater motor?

Yes mate armature is probably all one piece of molten copper now :-) pop the back off it to check for charcoal!

how would i get to the heater motor? is it under the hood?

You can see the back of it and some wiring if you take the splash shield off from where the windscreen wiper motor is, unfortunately I don't think you can actually take it out that way without taking the dash out although someone may know better than me as mine is working fine, just the switch needs a wiggle occasionally :-)

al av a look at that cheers, the dash has been out at some point already as the bolts were loose when i got it.

just if any one is wondering, i got another heater blower and happy days! didnt have to take the dash out, got it thru bulkhead gap but! had to split motor in half (little clips to do so), so happy days
