Driver to GTI Conversion

Hello,

I am currently converting my 1983 1.3 driver to 1981 1.6 GTI Spec (Donor Car)

I'm at the stage of swapping the looms.

I have removed the 2 looms that go to the engine compartment on the Driver.

The wiring on the GTI donor car is mostly complete, but has been 'modified' in some places.

Can I plug the 2 engine bay looms from the GTI into the driver fuse box? (plus the rear loom for the fuel pump)

OR

Do I have to use the GTI fuse box and plug the existing Driver dashboard looms into it?

(I'm not too bothered about the MFA)

Any help would be appreciated.

think you'll need to swap the lot the driver should have the later fuse box the 81 gti the early type, they use different connectors, anyway u need to change the rear loom also for the fuel pump wireing.

you dont need to chane the compleat loom just plug in stuff like hall sender and injection relay/ controls and wiring. basically all the later looms are the same and you'll notice lots of unused plug connectors, the gti's just have extra stuff pluged in.

I've changed a 1.6 carb engine to a 2lt injection using the carb loom added digi  injection and ecu ect to the 1.6 loom

er no they don't just have extra stuff pluged in. there are two different fuse boxes on a mk1, the 1.6 gti has the early one the 1983 driver has the later one, looms cannot change between the different fuseboxes as they use completely different connetor blocks.
i take it crazycar was working on a cabrio 1.6? this would have the later fuse box and a digifant loom would plug in.

Volkswarren - What he meant was, you don't need to swap the fuse box or the looms. You can use the looms and fuse box already in the driver and add the bits that are not there - Trust me, I did it! (With the help of someone who knew what they were doing!   )
