Does the MFA show revs ?
ive tried to follow some of the other links on the web which say you can set the MFA to show digital revs, which helps to set idle correct is this true or not ?

I've never heard that one. Don't think you can as far as I'm aware.

Don't know on a MK1 but they certainly worked on my old '89 Mk2 GTI.
* Calling up MFA Check Mode Test
1. Set memory switch to 1
2. Switch ignition on
3. Press/hold mode select switch
4. Switch ignition off, then back on
5. Release mode select switch
or set switch to 2 in step 1 above to use the measuring mode.

Seems to indicate diferent things from the info I have but the most common ones seem to be :
MFA switch on position 1:
1. Engine Map code (or Distance Pulse meter should display 6010)
2. Country code
3. Speedometer
4. Upper rev limitter
5. Lower rev limitter
6. Decelaration fuel pressure
7. Display test
MFA switch on position 2:
1. Test sum of programmed bytes
2. Intake manifold (mbar)
3. Digital rev counter (Engine RPM)
4. Fuel usage (like normal)
5. Signal from speedo sensor
6. Oil temperature (like default)
7. Ambient temperature (like default)
Not 100% sure on all the items as the bits of info I've gleaned over the years seem to indicate some of the options are diferent depending on the vehicle.
