dashboard lighting

hi,
Whilst driving home the other night i noticed that i have very few reamining working interior lights  , what i'm on about are the ones that go behind the dash switches and ashtray. Luckily the lights on my dash dials are working well!  8)
Does anyone know where i can get these interior dash replacement bulbs from?

Cheers

Will

The bulbs in the fog and heated rear window are replaceable - they're a teeny little push in 1.2W bulb, same as used in the handbrake light, headlamp switch and hazard warning switch. And some VDO gauges.

There is a bulb that illuminates the heater/ventilation controls too. So I think that's 5 - cigar lighter, ventilation, 3x in the dash pod.

My dash lights work on the ignition rather then when the headlights are on, Weird. A previous owner must have been doing a bit of jiggery pokery with the electrics.  :dontknow:

You can get some of the bulbs from Halfrauds or all of them from Volkswagen.

The bulb behind the heater controls is in a holder that I think you can only get from VW. The OE bulb holder is an all-in-one unit that you can't remove the bulb from. You can remove the bulb in the VW replacement part. I think the bulb holder for the ashtray bulb is similar.

The bulb holder in the fog lamp switch (I think….memory not what it used to be) is another all in one unit, as is the VW replacement part.

The bulbs behind the speedo are slot in ones you can get from Halfrauds.

You can get 2.3W bulbs, instead of 1.2w bulbs (same size and fitting) for some of these. However - I've found that fitting a 2.3w bulb behind my heater panel has resulted in a melted bulb socket  :banghead:  So I'm planning to replace this with a 1.2w, even though this will make the panel less bright. here are the bulb numbers, although when I presented these to VW I got a LOT of 1.2w bulbs, and no 2.3w bulbs, so probably best to get the bulbs you can from Halford (and be prepared for meltdown), and the holders/other bulbs from VW;

431919040A bulb w/ white base 2w x1

Heater panel
321919039 socket for bulb x 1

Handbrake indicator
N0172512 Bulb 2w x2

Cig Lighter
171919244A Socket for bulb x 1
N0172512 Bulb 2w x1

Headlamp switch
N0172512 Bulb 2w x1

Hazard Switch
141957397A Socket for bulb x 1
N0172512 Bulb 2w x1

Rear window heater switch
141957397A Socket for bulb x 1
N0172512 Bulb 2w x1

Fog light switch

N0172512 Bulb 2w x1

Oh - and it's not difficult changing the bulbs. Just make sure you have a separate pot for dead bulbs, and live bulbs

Thanks for the bulb info i'll think i'll be trying to get the lower voltage bulbs, as melted holders would just be another little thing to sort.
Many thanks
