Dash temp gauge

Does any one what wire in the engine bay does the water temp gauge in the dash as mine goes for one side to another straight  way and flashes constantly thanks people

I take it when you start up it goes straight away to full hot and flashes? If so had this on mine the other day and was basically a dodgy wire/ connection to the temp sensor. Not sure if yours is a gti but I can get a pic up tomorrow of the offending area. If tracing back a possible faulty wire or connection fails could bve the sensor itself.

Just realised your only up the road from me and saw you a while ago. here a pic of the offending item, its with the spade connector on pretty much centre of picture. My wire had gone brittle and the spade connector corroded, but cut it back and fitted new spade connector all all has been good since then.

If you get any probs and want another golf to comapre to feel free to pop round, mines a cabby but 1983 so engine wise and most all the same.

Many thanks for your help dan just go t 2.0 16v on r1 carbs finished so trying to get rid of my last gremlins

on the 16v its to a black single pin sensor on the side of the head, but still yel/red wire

What is the sensor in the middel the big one above the coolant temp u have thoose two wires but there not going any where do you think i need them ?

Do you mean the green and black/red?

Thats thre one nine are not conected

I did have a quick look through my haynes last night but couldnt identify what it does lol.
